Today the Olympic Torch Relay passed my place of work at Oakwell, so I took a late lunch and went with Susan & our daughter Rachael to watch the procession. I believe this leg was started by Israel Paulino Perona who looked positively beaming with his Torch honour.
From the first image you will see that the torch was lit using a “Miners Lamp” a very fitting tribute to Barnsley town (or tarn if you’re a local!) There was a good crowd out waving and cheering for this leg of the journey, and the sun was welcome after the cold wet June we have been experiencing. The police were very public spirited enjoying the occasion and joining in the celebrations – even high-fiving the children who were excitedly waiting for a glimpse of the torch. I am pleased that I took the time to go and support the Olympic Torch relay, I know that I will never see this again in my lifetime and it was such an enjoyable experience.
I hope you enjoy looking at the images. Further images can be seen on my online album
