Last night while working in my office, I was aware of a bright red warm light coming through our daylight studio window. I went out to investigate further and this is the scene that I was confronted with.

The last day of summer in Barnsley, South Yorkshire

The most amazing sunset, something that was so wonderful that you only see on rare occasions in Barnsley. Knowing that the sunset wouldn’t be there for long, I nipped back for my camera to record this wondrous vision. As the end of summer has slowly crept in over the last few weeks, I think this was a lovely welcome to the Autumnal Equinox marking the start of the changing of the seasons yet again and the last day of summer in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

After four minutes, this beautiful sunset had disappeared

Technical info:
Shot on a DSLR with 24 -70 lens, manual settings underexposing between 1-2 stops at f4.
The reason for underexposing this scene was to add drama to the clouds and sky, the foreground was not the important part of the scene, and is included as a reference to scale only.

Here is a very powerful image that I think has something about the apocalypse to it! I have increased the contrast to give the image a deeper colour and add drama.
