Misty Sunrise over RSPB Old Moor | BBC Autumn Watch live at Old Moor RSPB
I’m thrilled to see the BBC autumn watch team are live at the Old Moor RSPB site pictured above.
This is truly a wonderful place, and it’s where I got my first sighting of a bittern: part of the heron family but much more elusive! I’d heard their booming from the reeds and spent many an hour trying to catch a glimpse, and kept coming home disappointed time after time. I can still remember the excitement I felt when I finally caught that first glimpse I’d been hoping for. I still feel that rush of excitement every time I manage to catch site of a bittern to this day.
For anyone who has never been to the RSPB Old Moor site, I can highly recommend this place: not just for the bitterns, but for the vast range of birds that visit this little jewel of a place. Also the staff that run this RSPB site are very knowledgeable, and always very friendly.
